Colby Birkes

Colby Birkes is a Managing Associate in Dentons' Corporate group, focusing on corporate law, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and franchising.

He assists companies from conception through growth and exit, including drafting and reviewing documents, advising on regulatory compliance, and negotiating franchise agreements. Notable matters include representing Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises, Inc. in the carve-out sale of its Diamond Power division for US$177 million; serving as lead counsel for a tech client in a seed-stage investment led by M12 (Microsoft's venture fund); representing a distillery client in a multi-site development project involving negotiations with utilities, government agencies, and large agricultural businesses; and representing a real estate client in the acquisition of a hotel and a multi-building housing development, including private placements and negotiation of complex financing arrangements.

Colby holds a J.D., summa cum laude from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law (2023) and a B.A., summa cum laude in Political Science from Morehead State University (2020).
