Steve McCrae

Steve McCrae is a Counsel in the firm's Real Estate practice, based in Charleston, focusing on obtaining governmental entitlements for industrial and developer clients, including Fee in Lieu of Taxation agreements, economic incentives, local government development agreements and zoning entitlements. He also serves as the client representative for several foreign-based companies with South Carolina operations.

His practice includes commercial real estate transactions for buyers and sellers, including representing school districts in land acquisitions, intergovernmental agreements and eminent domain actions. Notable matters include representing solar farm development companies in obtaining Fee in Lieu of Taxation agreements for over 125 sites in South Carolina, advising a master developer on a 1,437-acre mixed-use development project, and representing the fastest growing school district in South Carolina in all its land acquisitions since 2015. He is a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED-AP, BC & D), demonstrating expertise in green building practices.

Steve holds a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law (1975), where he was Notes Editor of the South Carolina Law Review, and a B.A. in Economics from Princeton University (1971).

He is recognised by The Best Lawyers in America® for Land Use and Zoning Law and Real Estate Law (2008–2026), and was named "Lawyer of the Year" for Land Use and Zoning Law in Charlotte in 2014. He holds a Martindale-Hubbell AV Pre-eminent Rating and has served on the South Carolina Board of Law Examiners (2005–2024).
