Peter P. Thieman is a Partner in Dentons' Energy practice, specialising in Energy Law. He advises domestic and global renewable and conventional energy companies, electric cooperatives and utilities, municipal utilities, financial institutions, investors and funds on transactions and regulatory issues in the energy space, including mergers, acquisitions, project development, project financing and related regulatory proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and state utility commissions.

Peter has over 25 years of experience negotiating power purchase agreements, fuel supply and transportation contracts, operation and maintenance agreements, and interconnection agreements. He has represented Rayburn Country Electric Cooperative in its US$400+ million acquisition of a 758 MW gas-fired power plant and a US$908 million securitisation, advised Eni Plenitude on a US$500+ million FERC application, and represented Enbridge on its US$1.75 billion sale of a 49% interest in a renewable power portfolio to CPPIB. He also advises electric cooperatives, utilities, and independent power producers on energy markets and compliance requirements under federal and state energy laws, as well as RTO, ISO and open access transmission tariffs.

Peter holds a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law (1993) and a B.A. in Economics and French from the University of Virginia (1990).
