Her practice focuses on Intellectual Property Law, providing IP counsel to clients who include many of the world's biggest names in consumer products, entertainment, fashion and financial services.
Monica's background includes a bachelor's degree with honours from business school and more than seven years working in her family business, a chain of 20 retail stores and a significant wholesale operation. She brings a thorough understanding of the challenges her clients encounter in running their business and offers practical, cost-effective legal and business solutions.
Her transactional practice includes advising on a wide variety of matters, including license, agency, distribution, sponsorship, endorsement, strategic alliance, marketing, procurement and manufacturing agreements. She serves as outside general counsel to one of the industry's most prominent shoe manufacturers, negotiating licences to develop new footwear lines and addressing infringement matters, and develops and negotiates various agreements for a leading interior designer and for global entertainment and fashion companies.
In strategic intellectual property management, Monica provides comprehensive counselling covering clients' entire IP portfolios, including brand conception and enforcement, trademark portfolio development and management, copyright protection and monetisation, and domain name strategy and protection. For a family of cable networks reaching 300+ million people worldwide, she manages its worldwide trademark portfolio and addresses copyright and trademark disputes. For a global investment bank, she managed the expansion of a trademark portfolio from fewer than 20 marks with limited geographic scope to 150 marks in 50 countries.
She also conducts due diligence on copyright, domain name and trademark assets in connection with mergers and acquisitions, asset sales and other transactions, including the US$770 million sale of a Las Vegas casino. In litigation and disputes, she has secured permanent injunctions for a major talent agency and a Big Four accounting firm, and recovered numerous domain names via the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy.
She holds a JD from Emory University School of Law (1995) and a BBA, magna cum laude, from The George Washington University (1991). She is recognised by Chambers USA, World Trademark Review 1000 (Gold ranking for prosecution and strategy, New York), The Best Lawyers in America for Trademark Law and Litigation – Intellectual Property, and Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars (Top 250 Women in IP 2024; Trade mark star and Copyright star 2025).
