Callan J. Smith

Callan J. Smith is a Managing Associate in the national Health Care group, specialising in Health Care Law. He provides strategic counsel to clients navigating complicated federal legislative and regulatory issues, drawing on his decade-plus experience in Washington—first on Capitol Hill, then for a governor’s federal affairs office, and now as a health care lawyer and lobbyist.

Callan has represented academic medical centers, federally qualified health centers, hospitals, children's hospitals, health care staffing agencies, health care technology companies, emergency transportation providers and national health care advocacy organizations on Capitol Hill and in high-level discussions with White House officials. He has substantive experience advising on Medicare, Medicaid and Affordable Care Act issues, as well as advancing client interests through the federal appropriations process. He also advises states, localities, hospital associations and providers on Medicaid supplemental payment design and financing issues.

Callan holds a J.D., cum laude, from Catholic University's Columbus School of Law and dual B.A. degrees in History and Political Science from the University of Montana.
