Stephanie M. Bruns

Stephanie M. Bruns is Of Counsel at Dentons, practicing in the Tax Law group. She helps clients resolve a wide range of tax issues, encompassing state and local tax planning and controversy, including property, sales, income, and excise taxes, as well as federal regulatory and licensing matters.

Stephanie provides in‑depth analysis on complex tax issues for local, national, and international businesses, including multi‑state surveys on narrow tax issues. She represents clients in tax disputes through administrative protest, settlement, and litigation before administrative tribunals, state courts, and appellate courts. She also has experience with the Internal Revenue Service in settling disputes, assisting with tax collection needs, and pursuing offers in compromise. She has experience navigating regulatory and licensing issues concerning state and federal excise taxes for tobacco, vapor products, hemp, and CBD. She has participated in significant cases including property tax exemption disputes involving religious institutions, fair cash value and constitutional challenges, sales tax cases involving food exemptions, and vehicle usage tax refund disputes.

Stephanie holds a J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School (2017), where she was Executive Editor of the Notre Dame Journal of Legislation, and an LL.M. in Taxation from Boston University School of Law (2019). She also holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame (2014).

She has been named to Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Tax Law (2025, 2026) and was a Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Pathfinder (2023). She serves on the board of the Joseph Maley Foundation.
