Jeffrey T. Bennett

Jeffrey T. Bennett is a Partner at Dentons, practicing in the Tax Law group. For more than 33 years, he has represented industrial, manufacturing, and commercial property taxpayers in administrative and appellate litigation, including assessment appeals, valuation issues, audit defense, equalization, and compliance cases. He regularly handles state and local tax incentive matters, including negotiations, claims, and compliance issues for economic development projects.

Jeff has concentrated expertise in utility company property and energy sector assessment and taxation, representing industries such as petroleum refining, petro‑chemical, pipeline, wind, and solar energy. He has collectively litigated more than a hundred tax cases before the Indiana Tax Court, Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Indiana, with notable reported cases including Ardagh Glass, Inc. v. Jay County Assessor, Allen County Assessor v. Verizon Data Services, and Lake County Assessor v. Amoco Sulfur Recovery Corp.

He holds a J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law (1988) and a B.A. from DePauw University (1986). He was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1989 and is also admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Jeff has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in the field of Tax Law (2018‑2026) and holds a Martindale‑Hubbell AV® Preeminent™ rating. He is a Registered Indiana Civil Mediator with an emphasis on state and local tax matters.
