Shari L. Klevens

Shari L. Klevens is a Partner at Dentons in Washington, DC, and a lead trial lawyer with decades of experience handling cases in state and federal courts across the US, as well as state and federal appeals. She is the co-chair of Dentons' global Insurance sector team and a member of the Firm's US board of directors.

Her practice focuses on insurance coverage disputes and bad faith litigation, professional and fiduciary liability, and complex commercial litigation. She serves as National Coordinating Counsel for a large US insurance carrier in connection with COVID-19 coverage litigation and as Global Coverage Counsel for one of the largest global insurance companies in connection with climate change litigation. She has deep experience defending lawyers and law firms in legal malpractice claims and advising on ethical obligations, risk management, and law firm mergers and restructuring.

She is a frequent writer and lecturer on legal malpractice and ethics, and has co-authored D.C. Legal Malpractice Law, Georgia Legal Malpractice Law, California Legal Malpractice Law, and The Lawyer’s Handbook: Ethics Compliance and Claim Avoidance. She served as Chair of the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Lawyer's Professional Liability from 2016 to 2019.

She holds a JD with honors from George Washington University School of Law and BS and BA degrees, cum laude, from the University of Maryland. She is recognized by Chambers USA for Insurance: Insurer, listed in Best Lawyers in America, and recommended by The Legal 500 for Insurance Advice to Insurers.
