Rose N. Petoskey

Rose N. Petoskey is Counsel in the firm's Regulatory, Public Policy and Government Affairs and Native American Law and Policy practices, based in the Washington, DC office, practicing in Administrative Law. She brings deep knowledge of federal regulatory frameworks affecting Tribal sovereignty and economic development, focusing on Indian lands and economic development in Indian Country.

Prior to joining Dentons, Rose served as Senior Advisor and Director of Tribal Affairs for the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, where she managed White House engagement with Tribal governments and coordinated on Biden-Harris Administration policies impacting Tribes. She also served as Senior Counselor to the Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs at the US Department of the Interior, managing policy issues including treaty and subsistence rights, public safety and justice, Alaska Native affairs, and self-governance programs. She served on the drafting teams for the updated Class III Tribal State Gaming Compact Process regulations and the Land Acquisition regulations.

Rose is a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. She holds a J.D. from Cornell Law School (2015), where she served as Notes Editor of the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy and Managing Editor of the Cornell Legal Information Institute Supreme Court Bulletin, and a B.A. with Honors from Michigan State University (2012), where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

She has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America in Native American Law (2027), received the Cornell Law School Alumni Exemplary Public Service Award (2024), the Excellence in Government Service Award from the Native American Bar Association of Washington, DC (2024), and was named a Rising Star by The Legal 500 US in Native American Law (2021).
