Lawyer Profile

Joshua D. Jordon is a Partner in Dentons' Capital Markets practice and a member of the firm's Capital Markets regulatory team. His primary practice area is Banking and Finance Law.

His practice focuses on the federal, state and local consumer credit laws that impact Wall Street institutions, including hedge funds, private equity funds, domestic and foreign banking institutions, mortgage lenders and servicers, and third-party due diligence firms. He also has significant experience in the application of the US financial services regulatory regime to fintech companies that provide alternative home and personal finance solutions for consumers, including home equity investments, shared appreciation mortgage products, bank partnerships and marketplace lenders.

He is recommended for both Financial Services Regulation by The Legal 500 (2020, 2023–2024) and Fintech by The Legal 500 (2024–2025), with clients noting he has "a wealth of experience advising on federal, state and local consumer credit laws."

On the federal level, these laws include the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLB) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), including the rules published by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), as well as the requirements of HUD/FHA, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Ginnie Mae, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

On the state level, he regularly counsels clients on anti-predatory lending laws, licensing statutes and other requirements that govern consumer and commercial credit products. He also has significant experience representing market participants before federal and state regulatory authorities with respect to examinations, and supervisory and enforcement actions.

Prior to joining Dentons, he served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Compliance Officer of American Mortgage Consultants (now known as SitusAMC), Wall Street's largest third-party due diligence and consulting firm, where he regularly advised on complex federal, state and local mortgage and consumer finance compliance issues. Prior to AMC, he held senior in-house counsel positions with a national, publicly traded servicer, originator and purchaser of residential mortgage loans and consumer assets on the secondary market.

His in-house counsel experience has provided him with a unique perspective on risk assessment and how regulatory requirements are integrated and implemented within investment strategies, business processes and technology systems. He is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the Structured Finance Association (SFA), the SFA ATR/QM Industry Workgroup, the NRSRO Due Diligence Industry Guide Working Group and the TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure (TRID) Due Diligence Working Group.

He holds a JD from New York Law School (2007), where he was Editor of the NYLS Media Law and Policy Journal, and a BA, magna cum laude, from Binghamton University (2004).
