Emily B. Thomas

Emily B. Thomas is a Shareholder in Dentons' Pittsburgh office, focusing on complex commercial litigation, energy and environmental disputes, and risk mitigation counseling. She brings over 18 years of experience representing highly technical and heavily regulated industries, including oil and gas production and transportation, renewable energy development, chemical production, and insurance.

She recently served as Assistant General Counsel for a leading North American specialty chemical company, managing litigation, environmental regulatory compliance, and employment disputes. Her private practice experience includes advising on the acquisition of oil and gas rights on Federal lands in Utah, obtaining a first-of-its-kind mandatory injunction under the Energy Policy Act of 2005 directing the BLM to approve applications for permits to drill, and representing renewable energy construction companies on EPC and BOP contracts, supply agreements, liens and land use issues. She has also handled product liability, chemical exposure, asbestos, and insurance coverage matters across the country, and has managed arbitrations to decision over environmental remediation disputes.

Emily holds a J.D., magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law (2006), where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review, and an A.B. in English from Duke University (2001).

She has been selected by Super Lawyers as a "Pennsylvania Rising Star" (2014–2019). She is a past President of the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the Women's Energy Network and has served as Board Chair of the National Foundation for Women's Energy Network.
