Douglas W. Everette

Douglas W. Everette is a Partner at Dentons, practicing in the Energy group, specializing in Energy Law. He represents independent power producers, municipalities, cooperatives, power marketers, and industrials across solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, and bioenergy resources, with a focus on energy regulatory aspects for the financing, development, acquisition, and disposition of energy assets.

Douglas advises on FERC regulatory compliance, competitive wholesale energy markets (MISO, PJM, NYISO, ISO‑NE, SPP, CAISO, ERCOT), market‑based tariff filings, hydroelectric licensing, NERC reliability standards, and Natural Gas Act issues. He also assists hyperscale data centers with electric supply procurements and renewable energy offtake arrangements. He has served as special energy counsel on transactions totaling $13 billion, FCC counsel on transactions totaling $350 million, and has negotiated fixed‑for‑floating intercreditor financing structures for oil and gas transactions totaling $2.9 billion. He negotiates and drafts power purchase agreements, operations and maintenance agreements, site lease agreements, interconnection arrangements, and commodity purchase agreements. He also provides counsel on environmental law, EPA regulatory compliance, and telecommunications matters including FCC licensing and spectrum leasing.

Douglas holds a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law (2000), an M.A. in Economics from the University of South Florida (1997), and a B.A. in Political Science from Indiana University (1992). He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Indiana, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the District of Washington and the Southern District of Indiana.

He is a member of the Energy Bar Association, the Federal Communications Bar Association, and the Electric Cooperative Bar Association.
