David F. Russey

David F. Russey is General Counsel and a Shareholder at Dentons Cohen & Grigsby, based in the Pittsburgh office, practicing in the firm's Commercial Litigation and Insurance practice. He has over 25 years of experience representing clients in commercial litigation and has tried cases to verdict in state and federal court, representing mining, manufacturing, healthcare, and technology clients in high-stakes disputes involving complex commercial issues, business torts, and post-acquisition claims.

For most of his career, Mr. Russey represented policyholders in coverage litigation involving property damage, business interruption, product liability, fiduciary liability, and D&O claims, and in bad faith litigation. He now represents insurers exclusively, leveraging his first-hand experience with policyholder tactics. Notable representations include representing a healthcare system in a $75 million arbitration regarding rescission of a hospital merger agreement, obtaining a favorable jury verdict for an IT staffing company on breach of contract and fiduciary duty claims, and representing a manufacturer in a multimillion-dollar Lanham Act unfair competition action. He also represents insurers in defense of COVID-19 business interruption claims and class actions.

David holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law (1999), a B.A. in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University (1994), and a Graduate Diploma in International Studies from the Bologna Center of the Johns Hopkins University SAIS (1993).
