William A. Boatwright

William A. Boatwright is Of Counsel at Dentons Davis Brown, focusing on nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations, including charities, private foundations, trade associations, churches, and university-related organizations.

Over the course of his career, he has helped form nearly 200 non-profit organizations and secured tax-exempt status for them. He advises established non-profits on a range of operational matters, including real estate, contracts, employment, regulatory compliance, and representation before the IRS and the Iowa Legislature. Notable successes include securing retroactive tax-exemption for a university-related organization resulting in a refund of approximately $250,000, and securing retroactive reinstatement of a charity's 501(c)(3) status to preserve the tax-exempt nature of $20 million in bonds.

William holds a J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law (1989) and a B.A. from Drake University (1985).
