Matt Chipman

Matt Chipman is a Managing Associate in Dentons' Commercial Litigation practice group, resident in the Oakland office. His primary practice area is Commercial Litigation.

His practice includes complex civil litigation in both state and federal courts, with a particular focus on insurance coverage litigation. He has assisted clients with contribution, subrogation, breach of contract and right to independent counsel, including both defending and prosecuting complaints and cross-complaints.

Prior to joining Dentons, he served as an associate in the insurance and financial services litigation practice group for a full-service law firm. During law school, he clerked for the Hon. Mary E. Wiss of the San Francisco Superior Court, the Hon. Beverly Wood of the Marin Superior Court and the Hon. Saundra B. Armstrong of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. He also served on the USF Law Review, Moot Court Case Counsel, and as a Research Assistant for Legal Research and Writing Professor Monalisa Vu.

He was recognised as a Super Lawyers "Rising Star" (2024–2026). He holds a JD from the University of San Francisco School of Law (2020) and a BA from the University of California at Berkeley (2016).
