Lawyer Profile

Lynn P. Harrison III is a Partner in the Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy department at Dentons, with more than 30 years of experience in workouts, reorganisations and liquidations. His primary practice area is Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law.

He is regarded as a leading lawyer on international and cross-border insolvencies, representing debtors, creditors, liquidators and trustees. Clients call him a "hardworking star individual" and describe him as "a very safe pair of hands." The Legal 500 noted that he "combines keen intelligence and high technical knowledge with warm client-handling skills." He was recognised in Global M&A Network's ninth annual list of the top 50 lawyers in the restructuring, distressed M&A and insolvency communities.

He primarily advises clients on Chapter 11 reorganisations, Chapter 15 and other ancillary proceedings, structured financings, receiverships, distressed trades and acquisitions.

Prior to joining Dentons, he led the insolvency aspects of the representation as conflicts counsel of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. and its affiliates, in one of the largest and most complex Chapter 11 cases ever filed. Other highlights include his key role in the international representation of the Italian Extraordinary Administrator of Parmalat S.p.A., a multinational dairy and food corporation, and its affiliates, in restructuring some of the company's subsidiaries in the United States and Latin America. He also counselled the foreign representatives of Gruppo Covarra S.A. de C.V., the first successful ancillary proceeding initiated by a "síndico" (a Mexican liquidator) in the United States since the enactment of Mexico's insolvency law, the Ley de Concurso Mercantiles.

His selected landmark transactions include advising a European International Financial Institution and the State Assets Management Agency (SAMA) of the Government of Uzbekistan on implementation of the new Law of Insolvency of the Republic of Uzbekistan; assisting with the representation of the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the multi-billion Chapter 11 case of a Chilean hydroelectric plant and its US affiliate, where the efforts of the UCC led the Debtors and secured lenders to agree to provide a 100% distribution to unsecured creditors; and acting as counsel for the German Insolvency Administrator to Pickenpack Production Lüneburg GmbH, Pickenpack Europe GmbH, Pickenpack Holding Germany GmbH and TST The Seafood Traders GmbH.

He represented CRT Capital Group LLC in connection with the Chapter 15 proceedings of Luxembourg-based SLS Capital, in addition to defending CRT Capital in related lawsuits brought in New York State and Federal district courts and a FINRA arbitration. He was counsel for the Joint Administrators of The Crowdmix Group to facilitate the sale, wind-down or liquidation of five entities comprising the Crowdmix Group, and represented the US interests of Gruppo Covarra S.A. de C.V., one of Mexico's largest clothing manufacturers and distributors, in successfully requiring claims to be asserted in Mexican proceedings pursuant to an ancillary proceeding.

Other matters include acting as counsel for Joseph Caruana, appointed by the Supreme Court of Gibraltar as liquidator to Hill Insurance Company Limited; prosecuting claims in the Chapter 11 cases of Aerovias Nacionales de Colombia S.A. Avianca on behalf of the lessor of airframe and engines; acting as counsel to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, including advice on the collection of outstanding loans due from debtors in proceedings under Florida and Panamanian law; and representing a major Austrian corporation in connection with the successful restructuring of several subsidiaries in the business of manufacturing, marketing and selling cellulosic fibres.

He was counsel for the Committee of Unsecured Creditors and the Indenture Trustee of Commonwealth Oil Refining Company in the successful reorganisation of an oil refinery located in Puerto Rico, and served as liquidating trustee for six related bond brokerage firms affiliated with Fundamental Brokers, Inc., with locations in New York, London and Tokyo, where, due to the successful marshalling of overseas assets and the resolution of claims arising under US, English and Japanese law, creditors of certain affiliates received 100% distributions on their claims. He also served as liquidating trustee in the wind-up of a Costa Rican corporation involved in the business of manufacturing fine jewellery.

His recognition includes being listed in Lawdragon 500 Leading U.S. Bankruptcy & Restructuring Lawyers (2020–2025) and Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Restructuring & Insolvency Lawyers (2020, 2025–2026); listed in Global M&A Network's top 50 lawyers in restructuring, distressed M&A and insolvency (2023); ranked by The Best Lawyers in America for Bankruptcy Litigation (2014–present); recognised by Chambers USA as a top Bankruptcy/Restructuring attorney in New York; cited by Legal 500 USA as a top lawyer in Corporate Restructuring; recognised by U.S. News & World Report's Best Lawyers as a top restructuring lawyer in New York; rated by Martindale-Hubbell as "AV Preeminent"; and received the Cross Border Turnaround Atlas Award (2018).
