Kathleen McCain

Kathleen McCain is a Partner in the Los Angeles office of Dentons, specialising in Insurance Law. She has more than 30 years of experience guiding clients through insurance transactions and regulatory issues, representing insurance companies, agents and related entities on regulatory compliance, holding company matters, reinsurance, corporate governance, insurance M&A, policy review, financial and market conduct examinations, insolvency and asset recovery.

Kathleen has experience across all lines of insurance including property and casualty, life, title insurance and surplus lines matters. Notable representations include advising a major California property and casualty insurer on its acquisition by a major mutual insurance company, representing the purchaser of a widely licensed insurer in securing regulatory approvals, and serving as principal legal and compliance resource for the insurance affiliates of a major financial institution during a four-year in-house secondment. She has also advised the Ohio Insurance Liquidator on insurance company liquidations, asset recovery and reinsurance disputes.

Kathleen holds a J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law and a B.A. from Ohio Northern University. She is an Accredited Insurance Receiver for Legal and Reinsurance by the International Association of Insurance Receivers and has served as its president and director.

She is listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Insurance Law (2025–2026) and is AV Preeminent peer-rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
