David R. Simonton

David R. Simonton is a Partner in Dentons' Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Insurance, and Appellate Litigation groups, specialising in Dispute Resolution. His practice focuses on trial court and appellate litigation across a variety of contexts, including insurance coverage, commercial disputes, consumer class actions and high-stakes personal injury claims.

David's primary area of specialty is insurance claims and disputes, counselling insurance carriers on coverage and claims-handling questions before and after litigation. He has defended carriers against hundreds of insurance coverage and "bad faith" suits in federal and state courts through trial and appeal, and has been a key member of multiple national defence coordinating teams for catastrophe and similar losses, including claims arising from Hurricanes Katrina and COVID-19. His appellate successes include the reversal of a US$23 million personal-injury judgment in the California Supreme Court and the reversal of a US$1.8 million judgment for insurance "bad faith" and punitive damages.

David holds a J.D. from UCLA School of Law (1998) and a B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of California at Los Angeles (1995).
