Catharine Homer

Catharine Homer is a Partner in Dentons US Commercial Litigation practice and part of the firm's Chambers-recognized Insurance Litigation Team, based in the Washington, DC office, practicing in Insurance Law. She leads the defense of companies facing class actions and complex commercial cases in trial and appellate courts across the US, with clients including major insurance companies, actuaries, and consumer products and service companies.

Ms. Homer has defended a long-term care insurance company and obtained final judicial approval of innovative settlements in several nationwide class actions concerning premium rate increases. She has obtained successful dismissals of numerous COVID-19 business interruption litigations at the trial court level and on appeal, including for clients such as Madison Square Garden, Bowlero, and Sportime Clubs. She serves as US national coordinating counsel for an insurer involving Russian aviation claims and litigations, and as coverage counsel for leading travel and E&O insurers. She also counsels a leading actuarial firm against negligence, fraud, and breach of contract actions brought by state Insurance Commissioners arising from premium rate setting for state health insurance cooperatives, and obtained full dismissal of a False Claims Act action against a nationwide actuarial firm.

She holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law (2013), where she served as Articles Editor of the Virginia Law & Business Review and Notes Editor of the Virginia Journal of Social Policy and the Law, an MSEd from St. John's University School of Education (2009), and a B.A. from Duke University (2007).
