Roderic G. Steakley

Roderic G. Steakley is a Partner and Chair of the Government Contracts practice group at Dentons Sirote in the Huntsville, Alabama office. He practices in the areas of complex commercial litigation, government contracts, and business-related tort cases, and also handles intellectual property disputes, including trademark and copyright infringement.

He represents clients in corporate disputes involving breach of fiduciary duty, governance, and misappropriation of corporate assets. He handles cases in state and federal courts as well as alternative dispute resolution through arbitration and mediation. Notable representations include obtaining a jury verdict in excess of US$50,000,000 on behalf of a ship builder subcontractor against a multi-national prime contractor; successfully representing Teledyne Brown in contract rights litigation involving hundreds of millions of dollars for the U.S. Space Station; successfully prosecuting and defending bid protests before the GAO, including a $25+ Billion procurement and defending a protest involving 3 task orders with a collective value in excess of $3.6 Billion; defending multi-million dollar defective pricing claims in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims; and successfully defending government contractors in debarment proceedings and DCAA and DCMA audits.

Rod holds a J.D. from The University of Alabama School of Law (1976) and a B.A. in psychology from the University of Alabama (1972). He previously served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Infantry and was a law clerk to the Honorable J. Foy Guin, Jr., United States District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama.

He is a registered mediator on the Alabama State Court Mediator Roster, a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and has served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Samford University.
