Nicholas W. Petts

Nicholas W. Petts is a Partner in the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution group, based in the Washington, DC office, practicing in Securities Law. He represents clients in complex civil litigation and government investigations, with a focus on financial markets matters, including issuers, broker-dealers, exchanges, and cryptocurrency developers.

Mr. Petts secured dismissal on summary judgment representing three national securities exchanges in a putative class action asserting claims under Securities Exchange Act § 10(b), and obtained favorable settlements in securities class actions for biotech firms Innocoll and electroCore. He has also represented clients in SEC and CFTC investigations related to securities registration and market intermediary and market operator registration issues.

He holds a J.D. from Columbia Law School (2013), where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and a member of the Columbia Business Law Review, and a B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania (2008).
