James M. Hinshaw

James M. Hinshaw is a Partner at Dentons, practicing in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group, specializing in Intellectual Property Law. He litigates complex business disputes, with an emphasis on patent, trademark, copyright, trade dress, trade secret misappropriation, and breach of licensing agreement matters.

James has extensive experience in high-stakes intellectual property and commercial litigation, including jury trials, bench trials, arbitrations, and appeals. Notable matters include representing a national college sports association in achieving an injunction and damages against a global beer company for trademark misappropriation; securing a complete dismissal and obtaining attorneys' fees for a large distribution company in a trademark and copyright infringement case; obtaining summary judgment for a 3D printing entrepreneur against a US$10 million trade secret misappropriation claim; and successfully defending a pharmaceutical company in a two-week bench trial on patent infringement, with the judgment affirmed on appeal. He has also handled complex environmental contamination claims, data security breach class actions, product liability cases, and real estate and zoning disputes.

He holds a J.D., magna cum laude, from Indiana University Maurer School of Law (1992), where he was Order of the Coif, and a B.A. in Economics, magna cum laude, from DePauw University (1989).
