Hans Steck

Hans Steck is a Partner at Dentons, practicing in the Public Finance group, specializing in Infrastructure Law. With more than 30 years of experience in public finance, he has been involved in virtually every type of governmental and private activity financing for state and local governments and private sector businesses, often serving as bond counsel or underwriter's counsel.

Hans focuses on two frequent and sophisticated issuers in Indiana—the Indiana Finance Authority and the City of Indianapolis—and serves as lead counsel on many local government bond deals. In the last year, he worked on public financing deals totaling $1.5 billion. Notable matters include serving as counsel for the Indiana Finance Authority on the successful issuance of $528 million in bonds refinancing the Ohio River Bridges‑East End Crossing Project; serving as bond counsel for the City of Indianapolis' $40 million road repair financing and its $50 million stormwater district deal; representing the City of Indianapolis as underwriter's counsel on its $650 million Community Justice Center financing; and serving as lead Indiana counsel for the consortium that bid and won the Ohio River Bridges P3 Project in 2013. He also works with private sector clients on tax increment financing and public‑private partnerships, assisting with financing, procurement, contractual, real estate, and environmental issues.

Hans holds a J.D. from Washington University (1976) and a B.A. in Economics and Speech from Wabash College. He has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in Public Finance Law (2012–2026), Economic Development Law (2021–2026), and Corporate Law (2024–2026).
