Emily S. Nozick

Emily S. Nozick is Counsel and a member of Dentons' Litigation practice, with more than 20 years of legal experience, 14 of which have focused on insurance coverage disputes and counselling. Her primary practice area is Insurance Law.

She has written more than a thousand coverage opinions involving first-party (property) and third-party (liability) cases. Her liability coverage opinions span topics including misrepresentation, "property damage," "bodily injury," "personal injury," accidental loss, business activities, trespass, construction defects, criminal acts, landlord/tenant issues, easements and rescission. On the property side, she has drafted coverage opinions on earth movement, water intrusion, collapse, mold, trigger of coverage, suit limitation, pollution, "sudden and accidental" loss and causation, as well as opinions related to automobile and commercial policies.

She has represented insurers in numerous declaratory relief actions, helping establish law on coverage topics related to business activities, real estate misrepresentation, construction defects, motor vehicle exclusions and accidents, the definition of "insured person," trespass, neighbour disputes and criminal acts.

Prior to her insurance coverage practice, she practised general civil litigation, specialising in employment litigation. She holds a JD from the University of Chicago Law School (1991) and an AB in Philosophy, cum laude, from Harvard University (1987).
