Brent R. Baughman

Brent R. Baughman is a Partner at Dentons, practicing in the Labor and Employment and Litigation practice groups, specializing in Employment Law. He has an extensive appellate practice, representing clients before the Kentucky Supreme Court, Kentucky Court of Appeals, United States Supreme Court, and Federal Courts of Appeals.

Brent has argued numerous cases resulting in published decisions, including striking Louisville's minimum wage ordinance in Kentucky Restaurant Association v. Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government, rejecting extraterritorial application of the Kentucky Civil Rights Act, and limiting a franchisor's liability for franchisee operations. He also represents employers in state and federal courts defending civil rights, common law, wrongful discharge, and contract claims, and counsels employers on labor and employment issues. Notable matters include successfully achieving summary judgment for a large health system employer on claims seeking nearly US$4 million in damages, and affirming a defense judgment following a jury trial in Johns Manville Corp. v. Knauf Insulation, LLC.

Brent holds a J.D. and an MBA from Indiana University (1988) and a B.A. from the University of Louisville (1984). He was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 1988.

He has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in Appellate Practice, Employment Law – Management, Litigation – Labor & Employment, Labor Law – Management, Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law, and Employment Law – Individuals (2008–2026).
