Michael A. Gilmer

Michael A. Gilmer is Special Counsel at Dentons Davis Brown, specialising in Tax Law. He regularly counsels clients on tax matters related to the state of Iowa and the federal government, and advises on the tax implications of business transactions including sales, recapitalisations and exit planning.

Michael has prepared a number of cases for trial before the US Tax Court, including matters involving the disqualification of ESOPs. He represents clients before the IRS, the Iowa Department of Revenue, Iowa Workforce Development and other state agencies from initial audit through court representation. He advises clients on entity choice, estate planning, federal and state tax credit programs, and the creation and operation of non-profit entities. His prior in-house experience as legal counsel at a global company provides him with a broader perspective in advising clients.

Michael holds an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law (2009), a J.D. from Drake University Law School (2007), and a B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College (2004).
