Kirk R. Ruthenberg

Kirk R. Ruthenberg is a Partner in the Washington, DC office, specialising in Intellectual Property Law. He is a senior litigation partner with more than 30 years of experience at Dentons, formerly heading the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice in the DC office. He devotes his practice to patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, IP malpractice, antitrust and complex commercial disputes, and counsels clients on IP and licensing strategies.

Kirk has litigated patent infringement disputes in federal district courts, the Federal Circuit and the United States International Trade Commission across a broad array of technologies, including medical devices, software, semiconductors, wireless telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, automated trading strategies and platelet apheresis equipment. He served as lead trial counsel for Macronix Semiconductor in an ITC action, obtaining a ruling invalidating the asserted patent and a dismissal of the investigation against Macronix—the only victorious respondent. He has also represented Dexcom, Inc., ecobee, Wilson Electronics, Sprint, T-Mobile and JLG Industries in high-stakes patent disputes, and has prosecuted antitrust claims and trade secret misappropriation matters.

Kirk holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center (1979), where he served as Lead Articles Editor for Law and Policy in International Business, and a B.S., cum laude, from the University of Illinois, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
