Karsten Ritter

Karsten Ritter is a Partner at Dentons, practicing in the Energy, Economic Development, and Corporate groups, specializing in Oil and Gas Law as well as renewable energy development. She focuses on oil and gas, coal, solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and large‑scale, multistate carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) projects.

Karsten advises on due diligence, title review, and regulatory compliance across federal, state, and fee lands, working with the Bureau of Land Management and various state agencies. She drafts and reviews complex industry contracts, prepares oil and gas title opinions, and manages title curative work. She has closed over 100 mineral, lease, and working interest acquisitions. In addition to energy, she counsels clients on large‑scale data center development, build‑to‑suite leases, and land acquisitions across multiple states. She has prepared well site, pore space, and pipeline agreements for multistate CCS projects, solar energy lease and easement agreements, and advised on data center development in Ohio.

Karsten holds a J.D. from Northern Kentucky University, Salmon P. Chase College of Law (2010), and a B.A. in Environmental Studies with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder (2007). She is admitted to practice in Colorado and Ohio.

She is a Board of Trustees member of the Energy and Mineral Law Foundation, and a member of the Colorado, Ohio, and Cincinnati Bar Associations. She has co‑authored insights on Qualified Opportunity Zone incentives for data center projects and the CCS legal landscape in Indiana.
