Julie Vanneman

Julie Vanneman is a Shareholder at Dentons and Chair of the Dentons Cohen & Grigsby Environmental National Practice, specializing in Environmental Law. She counsels and represents clients on environmental and workplace health and safety issues, including remediation initiatives at contaminated sites under CERCLA, environmental compliance counseling, and responses to agency investigations.

Julie has significant experience representing companies in OSHA investigations and safety‑related whistleblower complaints. Notable matters include serving as national outside environmental counsel for a Fortune 250 company; serving as common counsel for a group of parties at a Superfund site; negotiating creative settlements with OSHA; and representing a company in an $80 million CERCLA case involving more than 200 parties, successfully negotiating a site‑wide settlement with the EPA. She also counsels clients on workplace safety issues arising from the COVID‑19 pandemic and other emergent situations, including root cause investigations and crisis management.

Julie holds a J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law (2007), where she received the David Stahl Memorial Award for the highest grade average in her graduating class and the Scribes Award for best Law Review Note. She also holds a B.A., with distinction, in American Studies from Stanford University (1991). She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third and Fourth Circuits, and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Julie is listed as a Recognized Lawyer in The Legal 500 (2025) and in the 500 Leading U.S. Environmental & Energy Lawyers by Lawdragon (2021, 2023–2026). She served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law (2021–2023).
