John C. Pietila

John C. Pietila is a Shareholder at Dentons Davis Brown, where he serves as Chair of the Business Division and was firm President from 2019 to 2024. His practice focuses on Telecommunications Law, as well as agribusiness, corporate and mergers and acquisitions matters.

John works closely with wireline and wireless telecommunications companies, cable television providers, broadband providers and other communications and technology companies on a wide range of business, regulatory, policy, contractual and transactional matters. He supports clients as they navigate shifts in business strategy and regulatory policy, including the evolution of IP-enabled networks, the convergence of fixed and mobile services and the expansion of effective competition. He is general counsel for the Iowa Communications Alliance and Chair of the Legal Committee for NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association.

He also advises clients on strategic transactions and joint ventures, including mergers, acquisitions and investments, and assists clients in negotiating and structuring credit facilities and targeted equity investments. Much of his work involves financing for rural telecommunications companies and agribusiness companies, including through USDA Rural Development Programs and USDA Rural Utilities Service lending programs.

He holds a JD from the University of Iowa College of Law and a BS from South Dakota State University. He is recognized by Chambers USA for Corporate/M&A in Iowa and by The Best Lawyers in America for Mergers and Acquisitions Law.
