Jay Beatmann

Jay Beatmann is a Counsel in Dentons' Energy practice, based in New Orleans, focusing on utility regulation, energy law and civil litigation.

He has represented private and public clients in utility matters before the New Orleans City Council and the Louisiana Public Service Commission since 2000, involving electric, natural gas and telecommunications services. He has advised and represented clients in the overwhelming majority of electric and gas ratemaking proceedings before the New Orleans City Council, including major base rate cases, fuel adjustment clause proceedings, formula rate plan proceedings and energy efficiency proceedings. He also served as co-counsel in proceedings before the Louisiana Public Service Commission involving merger examinations, contract impacts on ratepayers and alleged prohibited subsidization of non-regulated affiliates. Additionally, he handles civil litigation involving contracts, construction disputes, successions and foreclosure, and has extensive experience in residential and commercial real estate transactions.

Jay holds a J.D. from Southern University Law Center (1999) and a B.A. from Loyola University New Orleans (1993).

He is a licensed Louisiana title insurance agent and has served as counsel to the New Orleans City Council's Cable, Telecommunications and Technology Committee.
